Del Mar Horse Races Return for 2010 Season Horse racing excitement returns to the Del Mar Racetrack for it Thoroughbred Racing Season! It's summertime where the turf meets the surf, and that means exhilerating races, big wins, and great music at the 4 o'clock Friday concert series. 4 O'Clock Friday Concert Series Schedule: Free with paid racetrack admission. * Fri, Jul 23 Pinback * Fri, Jul 30 Common Sense * Fri, Aug 6 The B-52s * Fri, Aug 13 The Soft Pack * Sat, Aug 14 Jimmy Cliff & Matisyahu * Fri, Aug 20 Ozomatli * Sat, Aug 21 Weezer * Fri, Aug 27 Super Diamond * Sat, Aug 28 Craft Microbrew Festival & Local Music Showcase * Fri, Sep 3 The English Beat * Sat, Sep 4 ZZ Top Shuttle Information Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, *Saturday, Sunday: British Bus Company is contracted by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club to provide shuttle service to the Del Mar Racetrack for Racing Patrons arriving on Amtrak/Coaster at the Solana Beach Station. * Shuttle service begins from the Solana Station at 9:31am to meet Train #564, and continues to meet incoming Trains/Coasters until 4:35 p.m. * Service returning to the Solana Station from the racetrack departs promptly 15 minutes after each race. (Please note, the races do not always run on time, therefore you must adjust you departure from the races to make your Train/Coaster schedule). * Last shuttle leaves the racetrack 45min after the end of the last race. On the Saturdays that the Racetrack hosts a concert, shuttle service ends at 10pm. Friday: * Shuttle service begins from the Solana Station at 11:49am to meet Train #768, and continues to meet incoming Trains/Coasters until 7:00pm. * Service returning to the Solana Station from the racetrack departs promptly 15 minutes after each race. (Please note, the races do not always run on time, therefore you must adjust you departure from the races to make your Train/Coaster schedule). * Last shuttle leaves the racetrack at 10pm. US Open Sandcastle Competition The 30th annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition kicks off in Imperial Beach. Friday August 6th, 2010 ~ The Sandcastle Dance kicks off the weekend at the Imperial Beach Boys and Girls Club. This 21 and up event is filled with live music and great company, and is a wonderful way to start off what is sure to be a fun filled weekend! Saturday August 7th, 2010 ~ In Imperial Beach, California, on Saturday, August 7th, the street festival begins. Over 140 vendors set up for the weekend activities. Continued with entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and lots of fun. Visitors stroll up and down Seacoast Drive, closed to traffic for the event, taking in the sights, sounds, and other sensory experiences of everything the U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition has to offer. The musical entertainment, selected from a wide variety of family friendly local acts, draws a huge crowd every year. The Kids-N-Kastles Competition is held on Saturday afternoon. Sunday August 8th, 2010 ~ On Sunday August 8th, the official U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition will be held. This is the championship of sandcastle building where the professional sand carvers vie for the title of Master's Champion. Professional and amateur sand carving teams throughout the U.S. will compete in the sandcastle building competition with more than $21,000 in cash prizes. Trained representatives for the US Open Sandcastle Competition will judge all categories. The weekend festivities conclude when the teams are presented with titles and cash prizes presented at the Awards ceremony. Sandcastle building begins at 9:00am and concludes at 2:00pm. Annual Hillcrest Cityfest Street Fair The 27th annual Hillcrest Street Fair under the Hillcrest Sign. CityFest celebrates community spirit with Music, Arts and Crafts, a celebratory lantern parade and rededication of the neighborhood sign. Join over 150,000 people beneath the Hillcrest Sign at the largest neighborhood street fair of its kind. CityFest 2010 is a celebration of art, music, food and Spirit in San Diego’s premiere urban neighborhood. San Diego Zoo's Nighttime Zoo Guaranteed to be wild, and probably a little bit crazy, the San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime Zoo festivities begin June 26. The extended hours of Nighttime Zoo – from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. – give guests more time to visit the more than 4,500 rare and endangered animals at the Zoo. Taking full advantage of the long summer days in San Diego, Nighttime Zoo is celebrated through September 6, 2010. Daily performances include surprise encounters with amazing acrobats dressed as animals as well as Stephen Fishwick’s “Splash!” the explosion of paint and music. Wait to see what animal will come to life on his canvas.
